An overcard in Texas Hold em Poker is a card in the hole or a poker players pocket cards that is higher than any of the cards showing on the table.
Players can wager with just an ace or two minor overcards on the flop, however players should most often fold if a player raises another players wager in this situation. If a player wagers before other players on the flop players may call with two overcards, but players should fold them at the turn unless players hand could improve. Also, players can call with two major overcards, if a player should raise another players wager on the flop. Also, with that same hand players can check-call on the turn unless the board looks to threatening.
A small pair and an overcard kicker is a hand that players can cold call a raise with on the flop. However, if on the next round players were raised and another players hand has not improved and/or someone wagers before players, then players should fold. Now amazing enough, if all check on the flop players may wager on the turn although players really have nothing. Many times the other opponent players will fold in this case, unless they are too loose.
Next is that players can sometimes bluff-bet if the flop contains an ace, as in this case many of the players will fold if they do not have pairs or an open ended straight, as it is almost impossible for them to have any overcards when the flop contains an Ace! Note! This will only work if the opponent players are not too many or playing to loose. Should a player suddenly wager into another player raises, and players are thinking of folding, the first thing players should do is check the amount of chips the opponent has in front of him, as if he is low or out of chips he is likely bluffing with either a raise/bet as he expects to go all-in on that hand anyway.
