The Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has raised $3000,000 in a attempt to turn over an Internet
gambling restriction, or at least permit an exception to legalis and regulate online texas holdem poker.
The alliance, directed by previous Sen. Alfonse D’Amato, will use the funds to lobby congress in
this sitting. The group has collected the money from the Interactive Gaming Council and from its
poker player members.
The PPA has been an very outspoken fighter versus the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
(UIGEA), which Congress approved at the end of 2006. The law intended to forbid financial
associations from receiving deposits from credit cards, cheques or electronic fund transfers to
online gambling sites.
They face strong competition from the National Football League (NFL), who believe UIGEA has aided
to defend the morality of the sport. They are probably to lobby to preserve the ban in place.
It is assessed that at least half the $16 billion Internet gambling business, which is mostly
presented on overseas sites, is estimated to be intensified by patrons in the United States.
