Jonathan Strange Mr Norrell By Susanna Clarke

At the beginning of the 19th century, two very different magicians appeared to change England’s history. In 1806, when the Napoleonic wars were raging on land and sea, most people believe that magic is already dead in England – until the retired Mr. Norrell reveals his powers and becomes a celebrity overnight.

Soon another practicing magician comes out: the young, handsome and sewage Jonathan Strange. He becomes Norrell’s student and they join the war against France. But Strange is increasingly attracted to the wildest and most dangerous forms of magic that complicate his partnership with Norrell and endanger everything else that matters to him.
